The Royal Scam will helm Brooklyn Bridge Park’ Conservancy’s Steely Dan Happy Hour – a tribute to Steely Dan and the enduring appeal of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen’s music.
Steely Dan wrote songs about losers, stoners, murderers, low-lifes, gamblers, degenerates and delinquents, they married pop songs with jazz and rock with minor chord progressions, non-standard time signatures and melodies that were complex, well-constructed and full of hooks – it’s why we love them. The Royal Scam will touch on melodies across seven albums from 1972 to 1980 including Aja, Can’t Buy A Thrill, Pretzel Logic and The Royal Scam.
Beneath the seemingly effortless facade of Steely Dan’s music lies a remarkable level of sophistication. Each song showcases their exceptional musicianship and attention to detail, making them a true testament to high-fidelity music production.
Steely Dan’s impact extends beyond their own discography. Their influence can be heard in the works of numerous contemporary artists, including Super Furry Animals, Kanye West, and MF DOOM. Their legacy continues to inspire and shape the music landscape, solidifying their status as one of the most influential bands of all time. Enjoy beverages for sale on-site by Fornino.
